Who Mikel Arteta blames for Fabio Vieira’s struggles as surprise Arsenal loan deal is explored

It’s just a matter of time before the main topic of discussion with regard to Arsenal transfers switches to outgoings.

At the time of writing, the Gunners have added Kai Havertz to their first-team squad after completing a £65million deal last month and are on the verge of smashing their transfer record to sign Declan Rice for £105million in addition to bolstering their defensive options with Jurrien Timber.

Once the latter pair are officially unveiled, the club’s spending this summer will exceed the £200million mark and naturally there will be a lot of eyes on how much sporting director Edu Gaspar is able to recoup in player sales. To the Brazilian’s credit, he’s off to a good start having sold Granit Xhaka to Bayer Leverkusen for £21.5million on the back of Pablo Mari’s £5.9million move to Monza.

Now, as have reported that Arsenal are open to selling Thomas Partey, Nicolas Pepe, Cedric Soares, Folarin Balogun, Auston Trusty, Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Runar Alex Runarsson if a suitable offer arrives before the summer transfer window closes, there’s a big opportunity to raise around £100million in the dream scenario.

But what about the possibility of other senior players, particularly the midfielders who will be affected by the arrivals of Havertz and Rice, leaving on loan to play regularly next season? Well, that brings us to Fabio Vieira after a difficult first year in England following a £34million transfer from Porto.

In fact, during our Q&A session earlier in the week, user: ‘T.H Cho’ was keen to find out what’s in store for the attacking midfielder next season by stating: “I Want to ask about Fabio Vieira’s future. Is Arsenal considering on loan Fabio?”

To which had the following response from’s Chief Arsenal writer Kaya Kaynak: “I have to say I would be surprised to see Fabio Vieira loaned this season. He may not have had the best of debut seasons but Mikel Arteta is still a huge fan. The Arsenal boss blames himself for Vieira’s slow start to life in England.

“It’s also worth remembering that Vieira’s preseason last year was massively disrupted by injury,” Kaynak added. “Hopefully if he can get a bit more of a rhythm going this time around he can hit the ground running and provide Arsenal with an option to rest and rotate Odegaard.”
