Mikel Arteta Furious With His Players As They Fail To Score ‘Four or Five’ Against Aston Villa

Arsenal maintained their 100 per cent start to the season with a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa at the Emirates.

The Gunners remain top of the table, while the pressure continues to build on Villa boss Steven Gerrard as his side have lost four of their last five.

Mikel Arteta’s outfit dominated the first-half as Gabriel Jesus converted on the scoreboard for his third goal of the season.

The Brazilian pounced after Emiliano Martinez failed to deal with Granit Xhaka’s deflected shot.

Villa improved after the break and found an equaliser directly from Douglas Luiz’s corner.

However, Arsenal always looked like scoring again and they eventually did through Gabriel Martinelli less than three minutes later.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Arteta said: “I was very pleased especially in the first half. We were really dominant and at it and created chance after chance.

“The regret is that we didn’t score four or five. In this league you never get two halves exactly the same and I think we responded really well in key moments to show character and resilience to win the game.

“It is about cohesion, understanding and chemistry. You can see the way they link and threaten.

“The atmosphere is incredibly helpful for the team. We are winning games and deserving to but there are still a lot of things we can do better.”
