West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca has emerged as a target for Inter Milan.

The Italians are proposing around £17m which is likely to be rejected.

Inter had been speaking to Arsenal about striker Folarin Balogun but the asking price of around £50m is too high.

Scamacca joined the Hammers last summer for £35.5m but had a disappointing first season which was disrupted by injuries.

The forward ended up making just 11 starts in the Premier League and scored just three times across a campaign where he struggled with problems in his knee and meniscus.

As a result, he has been linked with an immediate return to Italy with Roma said to be leading the race.

However, wranglings over a fee have put a potential transfer in jeopardy.

Scamacca has shown himself more than capable of scoring in Italy, first impressing on-loan at Genoa in 2020-21.

He then enjoyed a breakout campaign back at Sassuolo during the next season in which he scored 16 goals in 36 league games.

The player’s difficulty adapting to life in the Premier League appeared to catch the eye of one of his West Ham team-mates.

Michail Antonio claimed that Scamacca wasn’t ‘a fighter’ in an explosive interview in June, just days before the club’s historic Europa Conference League victory.

But the Jamaiaca international was steadfast in his opinion that, despite this, Scamacca was still ‘a quality player’.
