Free agents available

Arsenal can sign players despite the transfer window closing on Tuesday night. The Gunners secured a deadline day deal for Jorginho and saw Cedric Soares and Albert Sambi Lokonga leave on loan but were otherwise quiet.

They did manage to sign Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior earlier in the window and weren’t drawn into panic buying but will nonetheless be disappointed at failing to get a deal done for Moises Caicedo.

That’s not to worry though as players without a club can be signed all year round. There are more attractive players with deals expiring in the summer too.

Europa League squad deadline

Arsenal, having just dealt with one deadline, still have another to meet before they can truly settle down with their squad for the rest of the season.

Although the Gunners aren’t in action for the next Europa League round due to finishing top of the group stage they will be back for the last-16 and have to register their squad for the remainder of the tournament.

UEFA rules read: “As of the round of 16, a club may register a maximum of three new eligible players for the remaining matches in the current competition. Such registration must be completed by 2 February 2023 (24.00CET) at the latest. This deadline cannot be extended.”

Caicedo deal explained

One of the big ‘what if’ moves of deadline day was Moises Caicedo to Arsenal. The 21-year-old had two bids rejected by Brighton for him in the final week from the Gunners but still remains on the south coast.

He attempted to take matters into his own hands too, releasing a statement on social media appearing to plea for an exit as well as all but say goodbye to the Seagulls.

Brighton remained firm in their stance though and no deal was reached between the two sides.
