If a report from The Sun is believed to be true, Arsenal are expected to reignite interest in Mykhaylo Mudryk, who was heavily linked over a summer transfer at the Emirates. The arrival of the Shakhtar Donetsk winger could see Marquinhos leaving the club on a winter loan in order to attain regular gametime.

The 19-year-old teenager joined the Gunners from Sao Paulo for a fee in the region of £3m. Mikel Arteta was open to loaning him out for the entire 2022-23 campaign, but a potential exit was blocked by the gaffer himself given their failure to land another wide attacker during the summer window. Marquinhos scored on his debut against FC Zurich in last week’s Europa League encounter, however, a temporary move is still on the cards if a deal is agreed for the young Ukrainian.

The 21-year-old Blue and Yellow international progressed through the academy ranks of Metalist Kharkiv, Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk and Shakhtar Donetsk before breaking into the latter’s senior side as a teenager. He was loaned out to Arsenal Kyiv and Desna Chernihiv for first-team football and the spells there helped him develop his skills before cementing a regular role in the current Miners squad.

Why Arsenal Should Revive Interest In Mudryk

Arsenal are finally back on track with some exciting brand of football. Moreover, they have been spot on in terms of recruitment and the philosophy of reconstructing the team surrounding talented youngsters should attain long-term success. Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka are irreplaceable down the wide, but they do not have enough cover for their young pair. Emile Smith Rowe is more effective as a ‘number 10’, whereas both Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah are most suited while spearheading the attack.

Reiss Nelson, still recovering from a muscle injury, remains an option. But the former England youth international has slipped down the pecking order after failing to impress on loan at Feyenoord. The 22-year-old could be deployed in Cup and European fixtures provided he regains his fitness post-international break.

Mudryk, though right-footed, prefers to play from the left as an inverted winger. He not only scored a goal but also assisted twice in Shakhtar’s emphatic 4-1 win against RB Leipzig in the Champions League, and his emergence suggests that the Arsenal scouts are once again right on the money. Although it is too early to speculate transfer rumours, Marquinhos’ immediate future relies on any likely move for the promising Ukraine international.
