David Raya move confirmed as Aymeric Laporte transfer decision made

David Raya confirmed
Arsenal have officially confirmed the signing of goalkeeper David Raya from fellow Premier League side Brentford.
The Spanish international has joined the Gunners on an initial season-long loan, with the north London club having the option to make the move permanent if they wish. Considering Raya is into the final 11 months of his contract with the Bees, he has signed a new two-year contract at the Gtech Community Stadium, with a club option for an additional 12 months to protect his value.
Raya’s first words
New arrival Raya made it no secret of his huge admiration for the way Mikel Arteta sets his team up during his first interview with the Gunners.
Speaking to the club’s official media team, the 27-year-old said: “I’m over the moon to be able to take this challenge in my career and make the step up. I’m really excited to get going and see how the season ends up.
“I spoke to the boss and he sent me the values of what Arsenal are about. The way that the club is going, it’s growing even more so it is a beautiful challenge to take and I couldn’t say no.
“I’ve seen Arsenal a lot for a lot of years and since [Mikel] came he’s made a massive difference to the style of play and to the club. The way the team plays out of the back, being confident and taking possession to the other team is the main thing why I fit into the team.
“I’m going to try and help as much as possible and we’ll see what happens.”
Laporte targeted
Arsenal are interested in Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte following the injury to Jurrien Timber, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
“The knee injury for Jurrien Timber is a serious problem for Arsenal, so we’ll have to see who could be on their list now,” he said, via Caught Offside. “We wish the best to Timber, let’s hope it won’t be a long injury, but it looks like a significant one, so Arsenal will explore the market.
“Earlier in the summer, Arsenal looked at bringing in a ‘traditional’ centre-back, more than a versatile player like Timber, who can play everywhere in defence. One player they appreciate is Aymeric Laporte – the rumours are true in the sense that he is liked by Arsenal.
“But the problem is Manchester City don’t want to sell another player to Arsenal, they prefer another destination for him, so let’s see if Arsenal return for Laporte or if they try to replace Timber with a full-back instead. Internal discussions will take place on that, with Mikel Arteta involved.”
