Martin Odegaard highlights Fabio Vieira difference

Speaking after the Europa League win in Norway, the Arsenal captain discussed his relationship on the pitch with Vieira and the differences between the pair. Odegaard said: “It’s brilliant to play with him.

“He’s a great player with great qualities, especially on the ball. I enjoy playing with him and hopefully we can do it more in the future.

“He’s a little bit different to me. I don’t like to compare to much but we’re a little bit different and we can play different positions, both of us, so we’ll see in the future what happens.”

The 22-year-old was asked what it was like to play alongside the Norwegian midfielder for the first time and how he felt he adapted to a deeper role. Vieira responded: “I feel good.

“Martin is a good player, everybody knows he has a lot of quality. I’m here to help the team as much as I can, I’m one more player to do everything on the pitch for this club, this team and to help my teammates.”

Bukayo Saka contract warning

Former Chelsea star Joe Cole has lauded Saka as a ‘gem’ and urged the Gunners to get a new contract agreed with the England international. Speaking after the 1-0 win against Bodo/Glimt, Cole told BT Sport: “You have to understand how young he is, where he is in his career.

“Arsenal have got such a gem here. He’s already so experienced, he’s one of the leaders on the team on the pitch, he takes responsibility.

“He’s a fantastic player and he’s one that Arsenal have got to tie down and build this new regime, this new great side that seems to be emerging (around him). The beauty with him is you can use him there on the left of a front three, you can use him as a number 10, a left wing back, on the right wing.

“But he’s just a fantastic footballer and he’s getting his education through Arteta and fantastic players. Young players around him have all got his energy and they’ve kept it going tonight. It’s important momentum at this stage of the season.”

Edu targets ‘next Erling Haaland’ with £18m transfer

According to Calciomercato, Arsenal are among a number of clubs keeping tabs on FC Nordsjaelland forward Andreas Schjelderup, who has scored 14 goals and provided a further five assists in 51 appearances. The 18-year-old has already registered eight goal contributions in just 12 matches so far this season as he continues to develop his talent, with interest growing in the impressive youngster.

Schjelderup’s contract is set to expire in 2024 and Nordsjaelland are said to be willing to accept a fee in the region of £17.5million. GOAL compared the teenager to Jack Grealish, whilst journalist Dean Jones has said the young striker has “similar traits” to City star Erling Haaland.

Schjelderup had a choice in the summer of 2020; join one of Europe’s elite academies or sign for a team where he could potentially be in the first team and continue his development at just 16-years-old. “I visited Ajax four times, PSV four times, Tottenham, Liverpool, Juventus, Fulham, Atalanta and Bayern Munich,” the Norwegian talent explained to TV2.

“They (Nordsjaelland) are a club that has shown that they give young players a chance, and that they spend enormous resources on player development. It was very tempting with clubs from Italy, England and Spain. I’m a Liverpool fan myself, but I kind of did not want to be one in the crowd. It is a longer way to go to get into the first team at those clubs.”
