Arsenal news: Gunners ease past Wolves as Samuel Chukwueze targeted for January transfer

Five points clear

Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to five points yesterday with a 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

After a tight opening 45 minutes, the north Londoners were by far the better team after the break and Martin Odegaard grabbed his fifth and sixth goal of the season from close range to lift Arsenal to 37 points.

The win, compounded with City’s shock home defeat earlier in the day, means Arsenal will go into the World Cup break with a five point advantage after continuing their best ever start to a Premier League season. Their next game isn’t for another 43 days, at home to West Ham United on Boxing Day.

Chukwueze identified

Arsenal will certainly head back into the transfer market as they seek to add quality depth to their squad with a likely battle against Manchester City for the Premier League title to come.

Mikel Arteta and Edu seem set on acquiring the services of Danilo from Palmeiras with rumours taking a significant spike this week, with the January transfer window looming, while Youri Tielemans remains an option, but perhaps more for the summer with Arsenal keen to wait for his contract to expire.

As for attacking options Mykhaylo Mudryk has been the name linked frequently as an attacking option for the Gunners with his displays in the Champions League for Shakhtar Donetsk catching the eye.

More recently though, Samuel Chukwueze has become a possible addition to the Gunners squad as the 23-year-old continues to impress for Villareal and a new report revealing his potential price tag could tempt Arsenal to acquire his services

Saka helped by England penalty miss

Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka has certainly grown as a player following his penalty miss against Italy for England in the Euros final last summer.

The footballing world rallied round the 21-year-old after he received some horrendous and totally unnecessary abuse and while Mikel Arteta explained how he thought, initially, the help was very beneficial, it was then on Saka to ensure he took learnt more about the pressure in big moments.

“First of all Gareth and all the coaching staff were very supportive and good with him,” Arteta told reporters. “That was really important because it was the first period after it. He’s been in every stadium in this country and the way they treat him and the way they show appreciation about him is great. He needed that.

“Experiences make you tougher and better if they don’t get you down too much. I think he reacted in a great way. I think the support and the recognition that he got from world football was great and it helped him to develop into a better player.
