Arsenal Are Keeping Tabs On This Gifted Playmaker: What Will He Bring To North London?
In a recent report, Football.London stated that Arsenal are keeping tabs on Stade Rennais playmaker Lovro Majer. It has been claimed that the Gunners are monitoring the progress of the Croatia international during this international break.
Majer’s Decent Form In Ligue 1 This Season
Majer has made a mixed start to this campaign but has done well to catch the eye at times over the past couple of months. The 24-year-old registered one goal and two assists in eight matches for the French club last season across all fronts.
The Zagreb-born sensation deserves some credit for averaging 0.8 shots, 1.0 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from midfield after making 82.9% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
The Croatia international’s current deal with Rennes is set to run out in the summer of 2026. Therefore, Arsenal would struggle to land Majer on the cheap if they end up moving in for him next year as he will be a valuable addition to their match-day squad.
What Will Majer Bring To Arsenal?
Majer is a decent playmaker in the final third as he has got the vision to cut open the opposition defence with a killer pass when he is playing with confidence on the pitch.
The Croatia international can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range. Majer usually plays in the number ten position or can even operate as a box-to-box midfielder if his manager asks him to do so. He can even make a few good runs with the ball towards the opponent’s penalty area but needs to find a way to improve his productivity going forward.
At 24, Majer’s prime years are ahead of him which makes him a good option for the Gunners to pursue at the end of this season. The Croat talent will bring some goals and creativity to Mikel Arteta‘s attack at the Emirates Stadium as long as he can maintain his good standards in English football.
Majer is good enough to be a success story at the North London club. Plus, he could help Arsenal compete for some top honours in the coming seasons. However, only time will tell whether he has what it takes to cope with the physical nature and high intensity of Premier League football if Arsenal can devise a way to get him on board next summer.
