Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka is not far off agreeing his new contract at the Emirates Stadium, according to journalist Paul Brown.

The 21-year-old’s current deal expires in the summer of 2024, but the Gunners want to get one of their most prized assets tied down to fresh terms.

What’s the latest news involving Saka?

According to 90min, the Premier League leaders are ‘pushing hard’ to secure Saka’s long-term future, along with teammates Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba, with The Sun calming that Arsenal are prepared to pay him £125,000 per-week.

The England international has become a key player for Arsenal since breaking into the first-team three years ago, which has allowed him to go on and play 139 times in all competitions.

But Saka’s last contract came back in July 2020, meaning he’s halfway through his current deal and has the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid on his radar.

However, with Arsenal heading in the right direction under Mikel Arteta and currently one point clear at the top of the table, Brown believes that Saka wants to remain with his boyhood club and it’s only a “a matter of time” before he commits his future to the club.

What did Brown say about Saka?

He told GUNNERS247: “I think it’s just a matter of time from what I’m hearing about Saka’s contract.

“He’s perfectly happy at Arsenal, there isn’t really a big club pushing to get him out of there because I think they know that he’s happy at Arsenal and wants to develop there.”

How has Saka performed this season?

Despite Arsenal being the standout team in the top-flight, Saka is yet to hit top form.

He’s scored once in eight games in all competitions, although he has registered a goal contribution in each of his last four Premier League outings.

In fact, his four goals and one assist mean that only Gabriel Jesus (7) has been directly involved in more goals in the league, while he also forced the own goal that sealed the opening day victory at Crystal Palace.

Saka also made a slow start to last season, though, finding the net just three times pre-Christmas, and still ended with 11 Premier League goals, so there’s every reason to believe the best is yet to come from the wide man.
